Sometimes lampshades can be so boring. Well, they don’t have to be with a little DIY Lampshade Design.
I have had this lamp for a number of years, and I love it because it has an adjustable arm. It came with this plain, boring lampshade. I could have easily gone out and bought a new lampshade. But with a few craft supplies and a small investment of time, I ended up with a DIY Lampshade Design I can be proud of.
The supplies you will need for this project include the lampshade, scissors, glue gun, glue sticks, wired ribbon and decorative trim. This project really could not have been easier. It literally took me 30 minutes from start to finish.
DIY Lampshade Design
First, measure how much ribbon you will need for one stripe, overlapping the ribbon on the inside of the lampshade with enough for hot gluing. Then, decide how many stripes you want. My shade has a three-spoke frame on top; and I had enough ribbon for nine pieces of stripes. So I would need to put three stripes inside each spoke of the frame. Be sure to evenly space out your ribbon around the lampshade. Once you have the ribbon evenly spaced around the lampshade, crimp the top and bottom of each stripe of ribbon around the top and bottom of the shade. Now you are ready to hot glue the top and bottom to the inside of the lampshade, being careful to let the glue cool slightly before pressing into the shade or you will burn your fingers.

To finish off the lampshade, you could use any assortment of trim you like, or maybe something you have on-hand. I selected a stretchy trim for the outside top and bottom as well as the inside in a contrasting color. Again, secure this with hot glue.
